This past weekend we participated in our second Startup Weekend at The Tech Garden in Syracuse. This year, after listening to all of the pitches on Friday night, the team decided to work on a unique idea to provide employers with verified information on potential employee candidates and provide a central hub for them to connect. Additional team members included local leaders in many different industries and with varying expertise.

Two late nights and hours upon hours of work produced a business model with validation from individuals looking to hire in the healthcare and IT industries. The team decided on JobDiligence as the name, desigend a logo to match, and created an awesome tagline: “Slam the Door on Bad Hires.” We were able to put together a functioning proof-of-concept website and our pitch at the end of the weekend went extremely well.

The three teams that took home top honors included a new system for charitable donations, a crowd sourcing and social media gifting website and a new concept on social advertising. All of these concepts were built over the weekend by teams of aspiring entrepreneurs. While JobDiligence didn’t win the top honors, we were able to learn a lot about recruiting and hiring and made several new connections with high performers in multiple industries. We owe a big thank you to the organizers in Syracuse and are looking forward to the next Startup Weekend a bit closer to home in Rochester.
