Sharp Notions is growing a team of smart, creative people who love building great software for our clients. Our employees are currently working 100% remote until our new headquarters is constructed in downtown Fairport, NY. Once construction is completed, all New York based employees will switch to a hybrid remote model that will require the occasional travel to the new headquarters.

The Position

As a Backend Software Engineer at Sharp Notions, you will be part of a team of 2-5 engineers that develops custom full-stack applications and microservices. We work in an agile environment and have daily standups. Our engineers typically work on 1-2 projects at a time and are provided a flexible work schedule. You will have the opportunity to use tools like Jira, Github, and Slack on a daily basis. Our teams enjoy staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, and participating in internal & external technology communities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain complex backend features using Node.js
• Maintain Node.js REST and GraphQL APIs
• Understand key customer and internal needs and propose technology-driven solutions
• Participate in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards
• Develop and promote standard methodologies in software engineering
• Guide scope, estimation, and technical delivery during iterations and releases

About You

• 4+ years of professional backend software development experience
• Experience using back-end frameworks like Node.js and Python
• Professional web development experience with JavaScript
• Database experience with Postgres, MySQL, SQL, or MongoDB
• Experience or desire to work with Cloud technologies like AWS or Azure
• Familiarity with web services and API’s
• Experience with Agile methodologies
• Passionate about working with new technologies and solving difficult technical problems

Role Overview

Are you looking to make a difference in the current student loan crisis? Sharp Notions has helped create a unique solution and we are looking for an experienced Product Owner to manage the go-forward market penetration and success of that product. This is a not just traditional hands-on start-up type role broadly spanning strategic planning to tactical execution of plans but also a chance to work with a company that has helped start-ups like Chime, Tally, and Earnest go from startup to fintech power players. The Product Owner will become an industry expert helping develop strategic plans based on current and anticipated market requirements and competition, business model planning, identification of solution core features and functionality, sales and business development. The Product Owner will collaborate with key stakeholders for approval of strategic plans and will be empowered to execute them.

What You Will Do

• Own strategic planning, product roadmap and operational execution
• Become an SME by understanding competitive features, functionality and business models associated with student loan benefits and translate into establishing the appropriate course of action
• Work with the technical team of software developers to set direction for features and functionality
• Manage operational execution to deliver desired business results
• Communique effectively with clients, partners, employees and key stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Develop requisite plans: a) five year strategic plan, b) product roadmap
• Identify business models to maximize growth, profitability and strategic appeal to alliance partners
• Identify and target markets (location, size, industry, etc.) and refine target profile based on successes
• Marketing promotion including collaterals and presentations, public relations and social media management
• Identify target prospects and execute operational plan to win business
• Accountability to achieve objectives and make adjustments based on operational results
• Grow, satisfy and retain clients
